It’s Minnesota

From Minneapolis it is 17 min by car to Saint Paul, 1 hr 55 min to Rochester, 1 hr 23 min to Saint Cloud, 2 hr 52 min to Duluth and 5 hr 20 min to Grand Marais on Lake Superior, and Metro Transit charges $2 for a local bus or light rail ride.

Drive times are measured with OpenStreetMap routing and have no live traffic; the Metro Transit fare is from its own fares page, read November 1, 2026. Both change, so check the live source before you leave. This guide points you to the region, the day trip or the season you want, and says what we could not confirm.

Not confirmedWe found no lodging prices, visitor-center hours for Minneapolis or Duluth, light rail line names or Duluth bus fares on the pages we could read. We give none. State park entry fees and permits are on the state parks page and change by year.

Parks and Nature

Minnesota’s state parks are the main reason to leave the cities: the state parks guide lists all 72 state parks and recreation areas by region, with the permit and pet rules we read. For what lives in them see the wildlife guide and the wildflowers and plants guide.

By Season

Winter is the festival season. Each guide reads its dates from the organizer. The full list is on Things To Do in Minnesota.
